With the arrival of warmer weather, our dogs’ needs also change. Choosing light, nutritious, and refreshing recipes can help them stay hydrated, mentally stimulated, and entertained.
We’re sharing a super easy homemade recipe to fill or spread. It’s ideal for dogs of all ages and works great as a treat or simply to break the routine.
🥣 Ingredients:
- 1 plain yogurt with no sugar (lactose-free is best, as some dogs are intolerant. Avoid yogurts with sweeteners like xylitol, which is toxic.)
- 2 ripe strawberries
- 1 small piece of apple (without seeds or core, as they contain small amounts of cyanide)
- 1 teaspoon of soaked chia seeds (optional)
- 1 teaspoon of 100% natural peanut butter (no salt or sugar — make sure it does not contain xylitol, a highly toxic sweetener for dogs)
- A handful of kibble (you can add it whole or slightly crushed)
👩🍳 Preparation:
- Blend the strawberries and apple until smooth.
- Add the yogurt and peanut butter, and mix well.
- Stir in the chia seeds and kibble. You can reserve a few pieces of kibble to place near the toy’s opening — this will encourage your dog to engage with it by smell.
- Fill the Dogball, Conic, Stick5, or spread the mixture on the LickLock tray.
- Serve immediately or freeze for a few hours to make it extra refreshing and long-lasting.
🐾 Benefits:
- Stimulates your dog’s sense of smell and mind
- Promotes calm and reduces stress
- Great for beating the heat
- Incorporates regular kibble in a fun and appealing way
